FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

We Are Open and in Session
A Statement from Rhonda Hopps, CEO of Perspectives Charter Schools

CHICAGO, IL – September 13, 2012 – The unimaginable occurred earlier this week when negotiations between Chicago Public Schools and the Chicago Teachers Union (CTU) failed, which lead to a labor strike decision by the CTU.  I am hopeful that an agreement will be reached soon as it is having a huge impact on the families of the 350,000 students who don't attend a charter school -- like Perspectives.

We are in session and our campuses are fully operational. Parents can rest assured that Perspectives will continue to implement our mission of educating students for college and preparing them for life. A Disciplined Life® will continue to be at the forefront of our daily activities.

Our scholars are receiving high quality instruction and invaluable real-world learning experiences early on in this academic year.  For example, a group of students recently visited the campus of DePaul University to learn more about and become inspired to attend college once they have graduated Perspectives.

And, our Perspectives scholars learned first-hand about the power of volunteering and serving their community at a 'Peace Garden' ceremony this past Tuesday, the National Day of Remembrance and Service on 9/11.  Humanitarian Alison Thompson was inspired to act by the tragedies of 9/11 and together with our students built two peace gardens and engaged in a highly emotional peace ceremony. Each student shared their reasoning for planting bulbs in the peace garden as a metaphor for future hope and growth toward more peaceful neighborhoods.

We are proud to offer our scholars experiential learning opportunities that help them grow academically as well as personally.  In these difficult times, we promise to continue to model the principles of A Disciplined Life® by being punctual and prepared, challenging each other intellectually, being positive and supportive, communicating effectively, seeking wisdom and expecting only quality work from ourselves!

Thank you so much for your dedication to and support of our students and their families.
