Field Studies

Perspectives integrates our students’ classroom curriculum with real-world, experiential learning opportunities.  We partner with museums, businesses and other organizations as host sites for our Field Studies.  Through Community Action projects, our students also give back to their communities by volunteering to serve others. 

Experiential learning is a highly effective educational method that engages the learner at a more personal level by addressing the needs and wants of the individual.  Experiential learning requires qualities such as self-initiative and self-evaluation.  For experiential learning to be truly effective, it should employ the whole learning wheel, from goal-setting, to experimenting and observing, to reviewing, and, finally, action planning. This complete process allows a person to learn new skills, new attitudes or even entirely new ways of thinking.

Perspectives teachers include experiential learning in their lesson plans and develop specific curriculum for each trip that prepares students for their learning experiences.  These opportunities help give our students a "big picture" of the world around them and a sense of connectedness to the broader community.
