How we live A Disciplined Life®
A Disciplined Life® - or ADL as we refer to it - is taught in every classroom and the 26 principles are posted everywhere throughout Perspectives, reminding us to live A Disciplined Life every day.
Recently, one of our middle school students arrived home from his second week of classes and wanted to go skateboarding. His mom could not take him. At first, he became upset and then his mom became upset. Until he stopped himself and said, "Sorry Mom, I just got out of my ADL class and we learned that this isn't the way to handle things. I'm very sorry. Maybe you'll take me another day."
His mom said he then got his sheet of Six Steps to Conflict Resolution "... and we talked about our feelings using 'I' messages' instead of 'you' messages. It was great and very reflective for me as a parent. I have posted this sheet in a handy place so we can reflect on these strategies."
There are many ways a student at Perspectives experiences A Disciplined Life. Our Common Expectations is a cornerstone to how we effectively implement this culture of excellence. Our teachers use these expectations to guide student behaviors in the classrooms, hallways and lunchroom. We evaluate both staff and students against these expectations.
